Salt air, and why an inland specification fails here
Any installer quoting Blackpool from a price list built for Manchester will specify hardware that pits and seizes within a couple of seasons. Salt-laden air attacks the housings, the fixings and, most commonly, the cable glands where moisture then gets in behind. A reader that would last a decade in an office park can be failing on a promenade frontage in two or three years.
The answer is not exotic. It is choosing appropriately rated enclosures for exposed positions, stainless fixings, sealing cable entries properly, and where possible siting the reader in the lee of the building rather than facing the sea because it happens to be next to the door.
